Some schools are getting creative with welcoming back their students. Like the parents, teachers, and student association at North Haven High School who are doing a Chalk Walk! How fun is that?!

I noticed this the other day driving into our parking lot here at Star. Some leaves already turning brown, orange and yellow. It’s not even September yet! But what makes them turn into that beautiful fall shade come autumn?
Let’s take a quick trip back to middle school science class… the leaves are actually that fall color all year-round. But red, orange, and yellow pigments only show up once a chemical called chlorophyll gets to them. That is what makes the leaves look green. Then it eventually breaks down in the fall months we are entering now. Think of it like this. Those foliage colors are really just masked by the amount of “green” chlorophyll the rest of the year in the spring and summer.

We all love our moms for so many reasons. Teaching us life lessons, raising us as kids, saving us from mountain lions…. wait what?! Yup… that’s what this mom did.
This happened last week our near L.A. A mom managed to save her five-year-old son from a Mountain Lion. The kid was playing in their front yard when the animal came by, attacked him and dragged him more than 100 feet away. Mom ran after it, caught up and started PUNCHING the lion until it dropped the kid. She then rushed him to the hospital, and now he’s okay and in stable condition according to the story.
Glad everyone is safe. Imagine how many times she can use this throughout the kid’s life now? “Remember… I saved you from that mountain lion”

Today’s mystery I thought of over the weekend. We have a group of bunnies who always wander into our backyard. I was trying to tell my 2 year old daughter that they were back but caught myself not knowing what a group of bunnies are called. A school of fish, flock of seagulls, pack of wolves, but what are bunnies?
Typically a group of bunnies are referred to as a “herd,” But in some parts of Canada, they call it a “fluffle,” which seems way more adorable and fitting. I’m going to call them that from now on.
