TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Woman gives birth on U.S. Military Plane while being evacuated from Afghanistan

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Woman gives birth on U.S. Military Plane while being evacuated from Afghanistan

We’ve seen a lot of tragic news come out of Afghanistan in the last week.  Our hearts go out to the U.S. Marines who sadly lost their lives yesterday serving our country, as well as their families.

In between all the horrible headlines there are some good news updates here and there too. Like this story of a pregnant Afghan woman who was evacuated on a U.S. military plane last Saturday… and then GAVE BIRTH on the plane!

Her blood pressure dropped mid-flight so the pilot descended to a lower altitude, which helped save the mom’s life. The baby was born on the plane and they were both safe and healthy. She decided to name her daughter “Reach,” because the military call sign of the plane that saved her was “Reach 828.”

Amazing.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How long does a $1 bill last?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How long does a $1 bill last?

More and more people are using everything but cash nowadays. Venmo, credit cards, phone apps, it’s becoming more rare to actually see real dollar bills being tossed around. But when they do… how long do they last in circulation? What’s the lifespan of one singular dollar bill.

According to the Federal Reserve, each $1 bill lasts about 6.6 years.  That’s actually longer than I thought! What’s even crazier is that the $100 bill has an average lifespan of 22.9 years. Wow.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD! Bradley International Airport welcomes back some furry friends

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD! Bradley International Airport welcomes back some furry friends

Today is National Dog Day and what a perfect day for Bradley International Airport to bring back their Bradley Buddies Therapy Dog program. The program was obviously paused at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the Connecticut Airport Authority is welcoming back the popular therapy dogs and their handlers to the airport.

As of today (Thursday, August 26th) the Bradley Buddies teams will be once again greeting passengers inside the airport’s terminal on a regular basis.

The Bradley Buddies Therapy Dog program was first launched at the airport in 2017 and since then has grown in popularity and in size. There are now a total of 17 teams, with all therapy dogs trained by Bright Spot Therapy Dogs, Inc. Therapy dogs are known to help provide comfort and alleviate stress, including in airport settings.

So if you’re flying anytime soon out of Hartford keep in eye out for the adorable Bradley buddies.
