MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Does eating carrots actually improve your eyesight?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Does eating carrots actually improve your eyesight?

I’ve heard this since I was a kid that if you eat carrots it will improve your eyesight. I always thought it was just a trick my Mom used to get me to eat more veggies. Turns out there is some truth to it!

Carrots are very rich in something called beta-carotene, which helps your body produce Vitamin A. They are also good for lowering cholesterol levels and yes… for improving vision. Vitamin A helps your eyes convert light to a signal that is sent to the brain, which allows you to see better in low light. Sweet! Night vision. Pass the carrots please!

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: You and Your Dog Go To The Movies

This story if for all the dog owners looking for fun things to do besides just another walk or hike.

Apparently the Mansfield Drive-in Theatre here in Connecticut is allowing you bring your pup along for a movie! The Drive-In has started offering ‘dog tickets’ at their showings.

A ticket tickets includes a waste bag and treat for your dog while they enjoy the show. All they ask in return is an optional $5 donation which they donate all the money to an animal rescue.

So fun!

We love dogs here at the Mansfield Drive-in Theatre, and we are so excited to announce that Fido (if friendly) can now…

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do some ketchup packets say “Fancy” on them?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do some ketchup packets say “Fancy” on them?

If you haven’t heard yet, there is a ketchup shortage in the country. A lot of restaurants, including many here in Connecticut, are having problems ordering takeout packets and bottles of ketchup lately.

Today’s mystery involves those little ketchup packets that say “Fancy” on them. What makes it fancy? It is a USDA grade, relating to specific gravity. Fancy ketchup has a higher tomato solid concentration than other USDA grades. So it really is a bit “fancier” than other ketchups. But with this shortage going on I’m sure people would take any ketchup they can get. Fancy or not.
