TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Out of Work Cleaning Lady Gets Surprised With New Penthouse Apartment

This might be my favorite Tell Me Something Good story of all time.

A cleaning lady in New York City recently lost her job during COVID, and had to move in with her sister after working at the same upscale apartment building for 20 years.

All of her customers who live in the building love her.  So they decided to pool their money and move her into the PENTHOUSE on the top floor.  They’re also covering her rent for two years, and the big reveal was all caught on video.  She thought she was there to clean the place, but then the owner of the building handed her the keys.  Her reaction is incredible. Love it.

Loyal cleaning woman who hit hard times during the Pandemic was given an apartment thanks to all the people who lived where she worked. She’s given a 2 year lease. from r/nextfuckinglevel

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why is ice slippery?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why is ice slippery?

With the snow coming down this afternoon I thought this would be a good mystery for today.

Anytime you see ice even though it’s solid frozen water there is always a layer of liquid on the surface which makes it slippery. Even in the coldest temperatures hundreds of degrees below zero, there is still a tiny layer of fluid. That is what cause you to fall if you’re not careful.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Hotel Chain Goes Above And Beyond For 6-Year-Old’s Birthday

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Hotel Chain Goes Above And Beyond For 6-Year-Old’s Birthday

Hotels having been one of the hardest hit industries during covid, so it’s always great to see a story like this.

A kid in the U.K. wanted to celebrate his 6th birthday at his favorite hotel that he and his family usually always vacation to. Sadly he is high risk for covid and they can’t travel. So instead his parents did the next best thing and recreated one of the hotel rooms in their own house for him. The hotel chain heard about it and sent the family a bunch of brand swag for the room so it really felt real. They also gave the family a voucher for a free stay once the pandemic is over.

The photos are great, you can see them here.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do people get down on one knee to propose?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do people get down on one knee to propose?

We’ve all been part of a proposal in one way or another. Being proposed to, seeing someone else get engaged, or even being the one getting down on one knee to pop the big question. But why one knee?

The “getting down on one knee” tradition dates all the way back to medieval times in the days of knighthood and chivalry. Knights would traditionally get down on one knee out of respect and loyalty to their lord. If a gentlemen back then was proposing to his lady the courteous thing to do as he declared his love would be to show that same respect and get down on one knee.

We may not have knights in shining armor these days, but the tradition still continues! Hopefully it’s enough for the answer to be “Yes!”
