TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: The Fun Story Behind Bernie’s Mittens

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: The Fun Story Behind Bernie’s Mittens

At this point you’ve probably seen the Bernie Sanders photoshopped meme more than a few times in your feed. It may have jumped the shark already. But the story behind the mittens is actually pretty great.

They were gifted to him four years ago when he was in the primary leading up to the 2016 presidential election. They were made by a second-grade school teacher in Vermont named Jen Ellis who is a family friend of Bernie’s. Now that this photo meme of him wearing them at the inauguration has taken off Jen has been flooded with requests to buy the mittens. She’s received over 6,000 emails that crashed her gmail account. To the point that she tweeted to everyone that she doesn’t make them anymore.

What a random, crazy story that no one saw coming leading up to the Inauguration. Gotta love the internet.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why is it bad manners to put your elbows on the table?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why is it bad manners to put your elbows on the table?

You’ve probably yelled at your kids more than a few times about this. “elbow off the table!” I even forgot sometime now as an adult. But why is this such bad manners anyway?

It all started back in England in the middle ages apparently. They did not have traditional dining tables back then, just these flimsy trestles covered in a cloth. The people would sit on one side of it and eat their dinner. If anyone put their elbows down and leaned to hard it would collapse the whole table. Then it just stuck as good etiquette ever since.

Elbows off the table kids!

It’s one thing to care about your employees’ mental health, but if you make the people who work for you do THIS, that’s all I need to know about you!  (3:56)

Former President Trump had a red button on his desk that he could press anytime he wanted a diet coke!  If you had a red button like that, what would you want it to do?  Raven would want a button that summons a ninja, but Anna wants to use it to summon someone else… (10:45)

Ivan posted a scathing restaurant review after he and his wife, Laura, had a bad meal. The restaurant reached out and offered a gift card to come back and to try them again and suggested he take down the review because it affects business. During this tough time, a review like that could be detrimental. Ivan won’t take it down or accept the gift card out of principle saying it’s “bribery”. Laura says he’s overreacting, and he should take the review down and be sympathetic. Whose side are you on?  (33:01)

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Bad Breakup Turns Into Cash Windfall

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Bad Breakup Turns Into Cash Windfall

Sadly there was a winner for the huge jackpot for Powerball last night. Unless you are the actual winner, this is a bummer. Luckily Mega Millions is still close to a billion dollars with the jackpot soaring to $970,000,000 before Friday’s drawing. I figured with all the lottery hype around here lately this would be a good story for TMSG today.

A guy in South Africa sadly got dumped by his girlfriend.  Then, on the same day she moved out, he hit the lottery for $4 million! Talk about karma and good luck. Hopefully someone here in the Connecticut. has that same luck on Friday night.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why are decaf coffee pots always orange?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why are decaf coffee pots always orange?

If you’re a decaf coffee drinker you’re probably used to looking for that recognizable orange coffee pot whenever you’re at a restaurant, diner, coffee shop, or in line at Dunkin’. But why is it orange?

It actually started back in 1923 as a marketing strategy by the coffee company, Sanka. They were the first ones to make decaf coffee and the label on the package was that bright orange shade. To promote their brand the started sending out orange coffeepots to coffee shops and restaurants as branding. Then it just stuck ever since.
