While there might be less mistletoe encounters this year because of Covid, it’s still one of the most unique traditions of the holiday season. But where did it all start anyway?
The actual mistletoe plant itself grows on many different trees like willow, apple, and oak trees. The tradition of hanging it up in your house goes all the way back to ancient Britain and France. The theory was that it possess mystical powers which bring good luck to the house and ward off any evil spirits. It was also believed to show a sign of love and friendship.
Now to the whole kissing under the mistletoe part. That all started in England back in the 1700s. The earliest recorded date of someone talking about kissing under a mistletoe was in a musical from 1784. There were also many illustrations of people kissing under mistletoe in various books of “A Christmas Carol” story which was published in 1843.
So there you go. This year maybe just stick to kissing your significant other and nobody random. Just to be safe.

The Grinch isn’t always bad. This story is a perfect example of the grumpy Grinch actually being a source for good!
This guy in England accidentally ordered a giant inflatable Grinch decoration that was much bigger than he expected. It’s almost the size of his house. Click here to see it for yourself
It instantly became a tourist attraction in his town. So he decided to start asking for donations when people come to see it. He has been giving all the money donated to charity. At this point he has raised over $21,000 for a hospice center that treated his dad before he died of COVID earlier this year.
This time… you’re not such a mean one, Mr. Grinch.

It’s happened to all of us. That ice cream, milkshake, or cold treat looks so good that you just want to eat or drink it as fast as possible. Then we all pay the price when our head starts throbbing. But why does this happen?
When you eat or drink something one of the first things it touched in your mouth is the palate, or the “roof of your mouth”. When something very cold touches it in the center the cold temperature of the substance sets off alarms on the nerves that control the blood flow to you head. The response by the nerves is to make the blood vessels swell up, causing that dreaded sensation known as a “Brain Freeze”. The ironic part is that it’s not really affecting you brain at all. It’s just the blood vessels.
So next time you have that cold treat just take it slow.
