The Anna & Raven Show: Election Day or Election Week?

The Anna & Raven Show: Election Day or Election Week?

Thursday November 5th, 2020
There was no way this election was gonna go happen without controversy, and the latest is Sharpie Gate!  People in Arizona are protesting that their ballots weren’t counted because they were given a sharpie to vote with, instead of a pen.  Crazy conspiracy, or do they have a “point”.  Get it? (00:00)

Anna’s uncle was obsessed with the election for months but couldn’t decide who to vote for.  So when the time came to vote, he didn’t, and he said it was because of COVID!  Anna’s not buying it.  Have you used the virus as an excuse to not do something?  Anna and Raven share their covid excuses and take calls. (3:12)
Who doesn’t know where their local liquor store is?  If you’re stress drinking because of the election, but you didn’t know where the closest liquor store is, that’s all Anna needs to know about you.  Also, Raven goes through a catalog from Gwyneth Paltrow’s company Goop.  Selections include a Vulva coloring book, and a lamp made entirely of bread! (9:55)

Anna’s daughter Hayden said that the runner up in the presidential election should just become the Vice President.  Turns out, some of the Founding Fathers’ agreed with her!  Raven (with the help of Wikipedia) breaks down the history behind the rules of Presidential races.  (13:25)
Who doesn’t love a nice five ‘clock shadow on a guy?  Turns out, voters don’t.  Have you noticed that no recent Presidents’ have had facial hair?  There’s a reason, and Anna gets to bottom of it.  (16:36)

Election Day (week?) is the time to bust out your big American Flag!  But did you know that there are rules for how big a flag is supposed to be?  Hint:  It depends on the size of the Flagpole.  Wait, that doesn’t sound right… (20:21)

Ok, look, the Kanye thing was funny for a little while but 60,000 votes!?  That could’ve made the difference in some of these electoral races!  Anna and Raven talk about what states voted for Kanye, and how they resisted the temptation to do the same. (24:17)
Couples Court:  Joe and Bree are planning their wedding! Joe’s sister is covered in tattoos, a nose ring, and ear gauges. Bree thinks it would be best to refrain from asking her to be in the bridal party since the dresses are strapless and it doesn’t seem to be her “thing”. Joe says they have to ask her sister, it’s hurtful not to! Whose side are you on? (27:40)

Taylor takes her shot at $3,100!  Does she have what it takes to beat Raven?  Would you have gotten that question about Beyonce? (35:17)

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Paul Rudd Does His Part To Put Smiles On Faces Of Voters

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Paul Rudd Does His Part To Put Smiles On Faces Of Voters

No matter who you voted for in the Presidential Election I think we can all agree it’s been a stressful time for everyone. It didn’t make it easier with all the long lines at the polls and some early voters having to wait in the rain, cold, and other elements.

That’s why actor Paul Rudd decided to show up in Brooklyn at the Barclay’s Center polling place and hand out homemade cookies to voters waiting line and on their way out after voting. Not just any cookies either. individually-wrapped blueberry and cream cookies. Which sound amazing, by the way.

A delicious cookie treat is what we all need right about now. Thank you, Paul Rudd.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why Is Tin Foil Only Shiny On One Side?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why Is Tin Foil Only Shiny On One Side?

You’ve used it a million times for baking, grilling, storing food, keeping things hot. But why is only 1 side of tin foil shiny?!

According the the experts at Reynolds, there is not really a big difference between the two sides. The reason for the dull side and shiny side has to do with how the product is manufactured.

No matter which side is it they both do the job when it comes to keeping those leftovers in the fridge or keeping those fries warm out of the air fryer. The only time it DOES make a difference is if you buy the “Non-stick” Reynolds foil which has a protective coating on one side. If you’re using that they suggest only placing food on the side marked “non-stick” for maximum efficiency.

Happy cooking!

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: An Old Tasty Election Day Tradition Is Making A Comeback

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: An Old Tasty Election Day Tradition Is Making A Comeback

Today’s Tell Me Something Good is a delicious one. There’s an old Election Day tradition from years ago that’s making a comeback this year. Baking an ELECTION CAKE! Sounds yummy.

Apparently people used to bake this one specific type of cake on Election Day to get them through the long nights of counting ballots at the polls.  It sounds like a decadent fruit cake, almost. The recipe included your standard cake ingredients like flour, butter, and eggs.  But then there are things like brown sugar, buttermilk, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, raisins, and pecans. Yum. Sounds like a holiday comfort food.

A few of the reasons this is making a comeback now is that there has been a big rise in baking during the pandemic with everyone staying home lately. Also people are just looking for ANYTHING at all to help make this election a little smoother. So this works perfectly.

Maybe you can bake it this afternoon and enjoy as you watch results come in all night. Here’s the recipe. Or if you’re not in the mood for baking you can always do the age old tradition of popping the cork on a nice bottle of wine. Either way…
