Tell Me Something Good: A Very Unique Underwater Proposal Here In Connecticut

Tell Me Something Good: A Very Unique Underwater Proposal Here In Connecticut

There are so many creative fun ways that couple’s get engaged. I proposed to my wife on top of Mt. Snow in Vermont right before we took a run down the mountain. It was exhilarating to say the least.

This Rhode Island couple had their big moment happen at Mystic Aquarium here in Connecticut. But not in the traditional way you might think.

Jake and Alyssa took what she thought was a normal trip the the aquarium, except little did she know Jake had arranged something special with the dive team in one of the tanks. As they were walking by one of the exhibits a diver swam up to the class holding a sign that read, “Jake has a question for you… “Will you marry me?”

As you can probably imagine Alyssa immediately burst into tears and said yes to Jake’s underwater proposal. Congrats you two!

Here is the video of the actual proposal inside the tank…

Mundane Mystery: Where Do Coffee Beans Actually Come From?

Mundane Mystery: Where Do Coffee Beans Actually Come From?

In celebration of today being National Coffee Day I decided to make today’s Mundane Mystery coffee related. Something I’ve always wondered myself about the coffee beans I grind in my kitchen every morning. Where do they actually grow? Are they a plant? A fruit? A tree? Just in the dirt? Lucky for you I got to the bottom of it. As well as a bonus question… what do they do with all the caffeine they take out of the coffee to make decaf?

Thanks to agiboo.com I learned that coffee beans actually grow on a bush. They are the pit of a berry which in fact makes them technically a fruit. Good to know! I honesty had no idea. There are two main varieties of coffee bean, green and red.

The red beans tend to have a nicer smell and are less acidic. These are used to produce lighter coffee blends. It’s also true that the longer the coffee bean is roasted the healthier it is for you.

When it comes to decaffeinated coffee (which just doesn’t make ANY sense to me whatsoever but I know there are decaf-ers reading this too) there is actually a chemical process where they have to take the caffeine out of the beans. Now what do they do with that extra caffeine you ask? Most of the time they sell it to Coca-Cola! Which is absolutely hilarious and a very smart idea.

Stephanie thinks it’s inappropriate that a father changes his young daughter in the women’s room at their swim school. She believes it makes the moms feel uncomfortable and would like to complain to the school to have him stop.  Her husband, Mike, says that he has a daughter with him and he probably just doesn’t feel comfortable bringing her into the men’s room. She needs to mind her business, it’s hard for dads.  (31:35)

Mundane Mystery: Why Does Pepper Make You Sneeze?

Mundane Mystery: Why Does Pepper Make You Sneeze?

This just happened to me over the weekend while I was seasoning some delicious filets to cook on the grill. While hitting them with some sea salt and black pepper I was immediately caught off guard with a sneezing fit from the pepper. Why does this happen EVERY time?!

I found out…

From loc.gov

Because the chemical piperine, an irritant, gets into the nose.

A sneeze is a reflex that is triggered when nerve endings inside the mucous membrane of the nose are stimulated.Pepper, be it white, black, or green, contains an alkaloid of pyridine called piperine. Piperine acts as an irritant if it gets into the nose. It stimulates (or irritates) the nerve endings inside the mucous membrane. This stimulation will cause you to sneeze. Actually, the nose wants to kick out this irritant and the only way it knows how to do this is by sneezing

There ya go… another Mundane Mystery, solved!

Tell Me Something Good: Guy Survives Heart Attack Thanks To Quick Thinking Taco Bell Drive-Thru

Talk about being in the right place at the right time. This story starts off scary but turns out good by the end.

At the beginning of September a guy in Phoenix had a heart attack while in the drive-thru lane at a Taco Bell.  Fortunately for him, the employees noticed what was happening and quickly called for help.  Turn out there was  a fire station right across the street from the Taco Bell.  Two firefighters ran over to save him.
