Every Thursday in The Feed Kevin talks to Kallie from ButFirstCoffee Blog.com about all things parenting, kids, life hacks, organization, productivity and motivation, simple DIYs, frugal shopping, and more.
With this COLD weather coming this weekend Kallie has some great ideas for fun activities to do with the kids related to the cold, but you don’t even have to leave the house to do them.
Big time Connecticut basketball game this weekend. Two Connecticut schools not named UCONN will be facing off on national TV. Fairfield will take on Quinnipiac Friday night at 7pm on ESPNU and ESPN+ from M&T Bank Arena in Hamden.
Last time these two faced each other last February Quinnipiac got the win. So the Stags will be looking for a little revenge on the national stage.
Happy Groundhog Day! Punxsutawney Phil ruined my spring time hopes this morning by seeing his shadow and predicting 6 more weeks of winter. Ugh. BUT, how accurate is this groundhog anyway?
Not very. “Phil” has been making his predictions since 1886, and he’s actually only been right 39% of the time! That’s under 50%. You could flip a coin and be more accurate. The Groundhog People at Gobbler’s Knob will tell you that he’s never wrong and maybe they just misheard Phil’s “Groundhogese.” language.
More often than not he predicts more winter. He’s seen his shadow 106 times now. Only 19 times has be seen no shadow and predicted an early spring. Which is crazy to me.
So if you were hoping for that nice spring weather coming sooner rather than later you might get your wish based on Phil’s record.

Every Wednesday Kevin is joined by Nick Johnston, TV and Film writer for Vanyaland.com. This week Nick tells us about two movies coming out in theaters on Friday. One featuring Tom Brady’s oldest fans and the other about scary cabin that probably has a big twist at the end since it’s from the mind of M. Night Shyamalan. We also get into the new Netflix doc about the richest dog on the planet.
We’ve all been there… driving along on the highway when you see the break lights start up ahead with all the cars slowing to a halt. NOOOOOOOOO!!!! Sometimes it’s nothing, other times it’s a terrible accident stopping traffic for hours.
Which is what happened on I-70 in Colorado last weekend. There was a big snow storm causing a bad accident where a tractor trailer jackknifed blocking all lanes, causing a 10-mile 5 hour back up. Ugh. Luckily no one was hurt in the accident.
There’s not much you can do in that situation so a group of people decided to make the most of trying to turn things in a positive direction. There was a bluegrass band named Elk Range in one of the vehicles who decided to set up their instruments on the side of the road and play music for everyone who was stuck. People were singing and dancing away having a great time.
It might not have fixed the traffic but I’m sure it lifted people’s spirits a little bit. The video is great, you can watch it here.
