Obviously the big event this weekend is Santa making his way to Connecticut on Saturday night with Rudy and his 8 reindeer. But there are a lot of other fun things to do including ice skating, lights, and even indoor snow! Megan gives us her list which she definitely checked twice.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Hilarious way one school principal told his students about their snow day

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Hilarious way one school principal told his students about their snow day

We’ve had some nasty weather here in Connecticut with all this wind and rain. But a lot of the country is also having severe winter storms. Including Wisconsin where they are having temps in the single digits and lots of snow.

One of the Principal’s made this amazing video to let the kids know there would be no school today:

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Can Christmas trees be recycled?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Can Christmas trees be recycled?

A lot of people who put up their Christmas tree a month ago will be itching to take it down on December 26th. Maybe it’s browning a little bit, losing some pine needles and making a mess. So, can trees be recycled?

A lot of towns have programs to leave your tree in front of your house for pickup or there might be tree pickup locations. So check with your local officials.

But the wackier part of this… is if you are REALLY into reusing your Christmas tree some people actually eat it! The needles provide vitamin C. You can also eat pine nuts, if your tree had pine cones on it. Be careful since those needles can be sharp. Maybe look up a recipe.  Some places donate the old trees to zoos to use for food for the zoo animals too.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Grocery Store Takes Store Issue Turns It Into Positive Solution

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Grocery Store Takes Store Issue Turns It Into Positive Solution

We’ve all been there. Waiting in line to pay for your groceries, in a rush, kids are screaming, and the person up in front of you paying is taking their sweet time even sparking up small talk with the cashier. It can be frustrating, but if you take a step back and try to see it from another perspective. Maybe that person needs that convo. A lot of elderly people doing their shopping like to have a connection like that with others.

This was the case at a Dutch grocery store in the Netherlands and they had a pretty creative way of solving it. They created something called “Chat Checkouts”. A lane where you can take all the time you want to pay for your items and also have a nice conversation with the cashier. Brilliant! The store says the costumers have been loving the idea and that it has helped a lot of people who might be feeling lonely, be able to have that connection without the stressful pressure of people waiting behind them.

By now there have probably been many songs played by astronauts up in outer space. But the first song every played is space? It was actually a Christmas song.

December 16th 1965 Jingle Bells became the first song every played in space. It was broadcast during NASA’s Gemini 6A space flight.

Fun little trivia fact to use on with your family during your Christmas parties this weekend.
