MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why can we see the moon out during the day sometimes?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why can we see the moon out during the day sometimes?

If you looked up at the blue sky this morning you could clearly still see the moon most of the morning. Even by 10-11am. But why is the moon way more visible in the day at times?

It mostly has to do with the position of the moon being in the exact right spot during the day to be able to see the light reflected against the blue sky.

When we see the moon during the day it’s because the moon is in the right spot in the sky, above the earth’s horizon, and it’s reflecting enough light to be as bright, or brighter, than the sky.”

Stars are nowhere near as bright as the blue sky during the day. But the moon is as bright as the reflected sunlight that’s why we can sometimes see it.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: The most adorable world record has been set

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: The most adorable world record has been set

World records are set and broken every day, but they’re not always as cute and cuddly as this one.

Over in England a bunch of people and their dogs got together to set the record for most dogs watching an outdoor movie screening. In total there were 127 pups all glued to the screen. Can you guess which movie they watched?!

Yup. That’s right, 101 Dalmatians.

While this is certainly impressive I do feel like 127 is a number that can be beat. Maybe we need to set up an outdoor movie here in Connecticut and try to get to 130 dogs!

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why does the McFlurry have that square shaped spoon with the hole in it?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why does the McFlurry have that square shaped spoon with the hole in it?

I had a few people email me about this yesterday since it was National Milkshake Day. Wanted to know why the McDonald’s McFlurry’s have such an odd shaped spoon with the square hole in it.

I always assumed it was a straw to drink the rest of the McFlurry when it melts a bit, but that’s not it at all. The reasoning is a lot more practical. That square opening connects to the machine they make the McFlurry with and it acts as an arm for the mixer to swirl it all around creating the frozen treat. Then they just serve it to you as a spoon as well. What a smart idea!
