TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Father Son duo are saving famous Fairfield beach area landmark

If you’re familiar with the Fairfield area you probably know the Inn at Fairfield Beach. A Staple in the town for years. It was recently put up for sale which worried a lot of residents.

But now a father son duo have swooped in to buy it and save the day. Jeff and Mike Giannone will purchase the Inn for $2million and say they plan to refresh the famous beach area landmark to make it available to people for years to come.

Love seeing this type of thing come together. Can’t wait to see the finished product!

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Do you really need to wait 30 minutes after eating before you swim?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Do you really need to wait 30 minutes after eating before you swim?

With how hot this summer has been I’m sure you’ve done your far share of swimming lately. One of the most famous phrases around pool parties over the years is to “wait 30 minutes after eating before you swim” But is this actually true?

Most doctors now agree… ” there is no scientific basis for that recommendation,” “You may end up with some stomach cramping or a muscle cramp, but this is not a dangerous activity to routinely enjoy.”

Depending on how intense your swimming is it’s probably a good idea to wait just do you’re not full and uncomfortable, but at the same time it’s not medically a problem at all if you don’t wait 30 minutes.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: One couple’s unique plan to help families with the cost of Back-To-School supplies

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: One couple’s unique plan to help families with the cost of Back-To-School supplies

As we head into the second half of August I’m sure if you’re a parent you’ve already started the back-to-school shopping madness. It can be stressful on many levels, but for a lot of families it’s hard financially too

That’s why this creative idea one couple in Cleveland came up with is so great. About six years ago they opened a store called 2nd Semester Consignment Shop. The idea was to sell school supplies at a discount for families in the area so every kid has what they need for the school year. It’s been such a big hit that they also now offer free tutors!

What a great idea. People should start this in towns everywhere, like here in Connecticut.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: You’re probably not eating “real” wasabi with your sushi

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: You’re probably not eating “real” wasabi with your sushi

Friday nights we always get sushi in our family. Part of our weekly tradition. One of my favorite things to do is mix the wasabi in with the soy sauce. Yum… so good. But apparently at most places and stores it’s not REAL wasabi at all.

A lot of times they use horseradish instead because the real wasabi is super expensive and actually pretty mild. I need that heat so I’m totally fine with whatever the fake stuff these places are serving.
