One of my favorite summer toys and great for the beach too. Frisbies! Such an odd unique name so where did it come from?
It actually has a Connecticut tie in. Back in 1871, a guy William Frisbie opened a Frisbie Pie Company in right here in Bridgeport. Students from local colleges would toss the empty pie tins back and forth outside while yelling “FRISBIE!!!” after his last name.
Then as the years went on it stuck. Then in 1958, the Wham-O company (who are also behind brining the hula-hoop to the masses) started manufacturing it as a product and selling Frisbee discs to people. The rest is history.
