TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Connecticut Teen To Compete On American Ninja Warrior

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Connecticut Teen To Compete On American Ninja Warrior

It’s always fun to see our fellow Connecticut residents compete on TV. There has been a bunch of Food Network shows, Jeopardy, and more over the years. But there is something REALLY impressive about American Ninja Warrior.

Jordan Carr from Easton, CT has been competing for two years on American Ninja Warrior Jr. Which I didn’t even know existed until now. But she has now been bumped up to the Ninja big leagues and will compete on the real prime time American Ninja Warrior which premieres tonight (Monday 6/6/22) at 8 p.m. on NBC.

Jordan is a trainer at New York City Ninja Academy and also used to compete as a rock climber before that.

We’ll be watching and cheering you on. Go Jordan!

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do our fingers get wrinkly when swimming?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do our fingers get wrinkly when swimming?

If you were at the beach or in a pool over the weekend you might have noticed the thing that always happens to your fingers when you stay in the water too long… they get all wrinkly! But why does this happen? It’s actually really interesting phenomenon.

It’s really just the blood vessels below the skin starting to constrict, which a lot of scientists say it the body’s way of helping us out when it comes to picking up wet objects. Part of our evolution as a species. What?! Yup. It’s true. There was even a study done back in 2013 that has been published in Biology Letters where the scientists found that people with wrinkled fingers were faster at picking up items under water like marbles, rather than the people with unwrinkled fingers. There was no difference when they did it with dry objects out of the water though.

Fascinating. Science!

Every Friday in The Feed Kevin talks to Megan from CampByMama.com about all the great things to do in Connecticut with the family. The first weekend in June has a lot happening. Everything from Half-Marathons to Lavender Farms and farmer’s markets.

Star 99.9 Events:

Stratford Main Street Festival: Saturday June 4th from 10am to 4pm on Main Street & Stratford Avenue in Stratford. The event is Rain or Shine

The event is supported by MJP Wealth Advisors, Fairfield University, Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, O’Reilly Electric and Connecticut Orthopaedics.

Megan’s Picks:

1. Lavender Farm, Killingworth, 10am – 4pm. Rain or shine. This 25-acre Lavender Pond Farm includes beautiful lavender fields. The farm offers a magical purple tram tour that explores the property or take a walk around the fields and visit the bees and chickens.

2. New Canaan Farmers Market, Saturday June 4th, 10:00am to 2:00pm, rain or shine, 244 Elm Street. CT Grown fruits, veggies, herbs, flowers, CT farm raised meats, eggs, breads, pastries, baked goods, granola, pestos, sauces, soups, and a whole lot more.

3. Danbury Street Festival, June 4th, 12-6pm Main Street. Artist, Innovators, Crafters, Musicians, Cultural Performances, Family Fun Zone, & more.

4. Wienerpalooza Saturday, June 04, 12pm at The Wienery (17 Bridge Street) in Stamford. It’s a fun way to celebrate this with the community. Contestants need to eat as many hot dogs as they can within the 10-minute time limit. Bring the family, enjoy some hot dogs and check out the competition! It’s always a great time!

5. Symphony in the Park, Bushnell Park in Downtown Hartford, Saturday June 4th, 2-4pm, ages 5 and up, free. Bring a blanket or chairs for sitting outdoors. Featuring musicians from the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, this performance features 55 musicians playing favorites from the silver screen by Latino and Black composers. In the case of rain, the concert will be moved to Mortensen Hall.

Megan’s Mom Quote of The Week: “Motherhood desperately seeking a break but, not wanting to miss a single moment.”

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Mayor surprises entire graduating class with generous gift

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Mayor surprises entire graduating class with generous gift

It’s graduation season which means there is a lot of stress for high school grads looking ahead to college and all the price tags that come along with it. Which is why a story like this is so great.

Up in Massachusetts there was a suburb outside of Boston who decided to use some of their leftover stimulus money to help some kids out going to college.

While the Mayor of Malden was giving a speech at an awards ceremony earlier this week everyone was expecting him to announce the winner of a $1,000 scholarship. But then he flipped the script and announced that EVERYONE in the room would be getting $1,000 for their education. The entire room when crazy after hearing the news.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: When is the real start to summer?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: When is the real start to summer?

I’ve been hearing a lot of people lately talking about how summer has started now that it’s June. But is that true?

It depends who you ask. Meteorologists define summer as June 1st through August 31st based on the temperature being hot in those months. June, July August is summer. But from an astronomical standpoint the Summer Solstice begins on June 21st.

I always based it on the last day of school when I was a kid. So whenever that is for you or your kids… summer begins!
