TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Connecticut students get on stage at Billboard Music Awards thanks to Diddy

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Connecticut students get on stage at Billboard Music Awards thanks to Diddy

One of my bucket list items is to attend an award show. Which would be awesome to do, never mind actually being ON STAGE at an award show.

That’s what students from the Capital Preparatory School in Bridgeport got to do last Sunday night at the Billboard Music Awards. Sean “Diddy” Combs who was hosting the BMAs in Vegas brought up students from Capital Prep’s three campus in Harlem, The Bronx, and Bridgeport just before he brought out Ed Sheeran. Diddy said it was important to him to give back to the community where he grew up in New York. What a fun way to give back too! Congrats to these kids.

What a moment.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Where did they come up with the name for “Bluetooth”?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Where did they come up with the name for “Bluetooth”?

You probably use it every single day. To pair your phone, speaker, laptop, headphones. Bluetooth is such a big part of our lives now. But where did the name come from?

It all goes back to the 10th century when King Harald “Bluetooth” Gormsson was well known for uniting different parts of Denmark. Hence the reason it’s use to talk about “uniting” devices together nowadays with technology. He got the nickname “Bluetooth” came about because he had a dead tooth which was a blue/grey color.

Crazy!

The Anna & Raven Road Show Continues!

The Anna & Raven Road Show Continues!

All this week, Ryan Brechlin from Nest Egg Auctions evaluates the items you submitted to see if they have any value. Today, he checked out Alison’s Charrat painting, Jan’s incredible Giacometti sculpture, and Cariann’s peanut roasting machine!

When someone says that something is “walking distance”, how far do you think that is?  For Raven it’s a 3-5 minute walk, but Anna is slightly more ambitious…  (:30)

Anna and Raven’s Road Show returns!  Ryan Brechlin, a Professional Antiques Appraiser, is in studio to determine if the old junk in your house is actually worth anything!  Will today’s item be a gold mine or only worth “peanuts”?   (3:38)

A fanny pack can be useful, but that doesn’t mean they’re cool.  So if you try to make it cool by calling it something else, that’s all I need to know about you!  (5:53)

Is there somewhere you go where everybody knows your name?  Anna has a place like that, which made it worse when she embarrassed herself there!  (9:08)

How do you wake up in the morning?  Some people use an alarm, so do it naturally, but Anna’s younger daughter has found a new and exciting way to make sure Anna’s awake!  (13:07)

Do you use deodorant or an anti-perspirant?  There’s a big difference and some of them can be really bad for you! Out of the goodness of her heart, Anna has come up with a way to keep the show healthy and safe from toxic deodorants…  (16:14)

Lawncare is a necessary part of home-ownership, but after hearing about Raven’s lawncare ritual, Anna thinks that he should be ashamed of himself!  (26:35)

Lanah has three children (10,12, & 14) and for the last three years, they have not planned anything to celebrate Mother’s Day for her. This year was no exception, no card, no lunch, nothing. Her husband, Jim, says that it’s not his fault they don’t do anything. Lanah is frustrated and told Jim that she will not plan any of their usual holidays anymore this year if he, along with his children, can’t figure out how to celebrate her for one day. Whose side are you on?  (34:08)

Raven is on a roll and the Can’t Beat Raven jackpot is now a record breaking $7500!  Does Nicole have what it takes to win it all?  (43:23)

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Two people who will inspire you to graduate

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Two people who will inspire you to graduate

It’s graduation season and I’m sure you know someone walking the stage this year to get their diploma. But the fact is there are a lot of people who never got to have that moment for various different reasons. If that’s you, maybe these two stories will inspire you to go back and get that degree.

First is an 80 year old woman named Madeline Adams who attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha 60 years ago. At the time she stopped going because “life happened”. Jobs, kids, everything that was going on in her life at the time. She always told her kids to never start anything they cannot finish. So he daughter encouraged her to go back and get her diploma based on her own advice… and she did!

The next one is NBA superstar Steph Curry. Basketball fans may remember his college days playing for Davidson. That was short lived as he left school early to play in the NBA at a pro level. Which has obviously worked out well for him, but he still wanted to finish school so he went back and is now graduating 13 years later.

Congrats to these two and all the other grads out there!

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why are cardinals red?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why are cardinals red?

I thought of this one over the weekend after seeing what was probably the brightest red cardinal I’ve ever seen. But what makes these amazing birds that color?

It’s actually pretty interesting. Their diet is so much fruit and berries that it impacts the color of their feathers/wings to turn that red shade. In turn it helps for the male cardinals to attract a female partner when mating.

Nature!
