TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: This mom’s plan to keep her son off social media until he was 18 actually worked!

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: This mom’s plan to keep her son off social media until he was 18 actually worked!

Social media has become a very hot button issue for parents lately. What age should your kids have a phone? What about an Instagram account? How can you make sure they are safe online? That their mental health is okay? It is all enough to make you think “I wish they could just not be on any of it”. Well, his one mom in Minnesota did exactly that with her son. Here’s how she pulled it off…

She basically bribed him by promising when he was 12 that if he stayed off all social media for 6 YEARS till his 18th birthday she would pay him $1,800. To a 12 year old that might as well be millions right? The kid actually kept to his promise and pulled it off! Ironically his mom then posted the whole story on her Facebook page saying it was the best money she every spent.

If you’re wondering whether he will keep the streak going and continue to stay off it… he said absolutely not. But now that he has signed up for Instagram he feels someone in their 80s because he has no ideas what’s going on. But he is $1,800 richer!

Amazing story.

Certain words and terms that feel like they have been around forever, a lot of time didn’t exists until someone came up with the idea to use it.

Like the word “teenager”. The word first appeared in print in an issue of Popular Science three in 1941. One of the writers for the magazine was talking about people who were of the “teen age” (13 through 17) and wrote “I never knew teen-agers could be so serious. The term stuck ever since. Almost how millennials was created during this generation.
