TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: One of America’s oldest veterans has some life advice for us

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: One of America’s oldest veterans has some life advice for us

Sometimes it takes a person who has lived the longest to give us the best life advice. They have the most life experience and perspective

People like America’s oldest living World War Two veteran who just celebrated his 112th birthday last weekend.  His name is Lawrence Brooks, and he lives in New Orleans.

Get this… he got married after the war ended and went on to have five kids.  Now he’s got 13 grandkids and 22 great-grandchildren! Crazy. His advice to everyone on life is to have faith, and be nice to people. You can’t ask for better advice than that.

Love it.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What does the “E” in The Big E stand for?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What does the “E” in The Big E stand for?

The Big E fair starts today out in Western Mass and goes through October 3rd. Always a great time to eat crazy fried foods, take the kids on rides, and see the Connecticut house! But today’s mystery… what does the “E” stand for?

There are a few different theories on this. One being that the original name of the fair was the Eastern States Exposition.

But it wasn’t until 1966, for the fiftieth anniversary, that the fair began marketing itself as “The Big E.” Which at the time the organizers said the “E” was an emphasis on “entertainment, education and excitement”. Which makes sense since they have all of those things! Plus delicious cream puffs… yum.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Ice Cream is about to get a lot safer for kids starting October 1st

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Ice Cream is about to get a lot safer for kids starting October 1st

It might just be my memory but I always feel like there were so many more ice cream trucks when I was a kid. Every night after dinner you’d hear the music all the time. Feels like there are a lot less nowadays.

Either way, starting October 1 there are a whole bunch of new laws going into effect here in Connecticut. One of them involving ice cream trucks.

This new law will require drivers passing ice cream trucks in the process of selling ice cream to stop and proceed slowly. Almost like school busses. The law will also implement safety equipment requirements and operating rules for the ice cream trucks. This all comes under something called “Tristan’s Law,” which was named after a 10-year-old Connecticut boy who was killed by a car while trying to buy from an Ice Cream in June 2020. Very sad story, but will ensure the safety of kids in the future.

Next time you see an ice cream truck, proceed with caution.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Who invented Mac and Cheese?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Who invented Mac and Cheese?

Anyone who has toddlers knows how important Mac and Cheese is to the weekly family meal prep. Even if you’re an adult, Mac and Cheese probably plays a big part in your life. But when and where did it come from? Who thought of it?

It’s more interesting than you think. The person who introduced the delicious Macaroni and Cheese to the U.S. was nonother than our third President… Thomas Jefferson.  He actually brought the recipe back to the U.S. after being on a trip to Italy.

Great call Tommy Jefferson. My 2 year old daughter thanks you.
