TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Connecticut’s connection to the big USWNT Olympic win today

Big win today for the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team at the Summer Olympics today as they defeated The Netherlands 4-2 in a penalty kick shoot out to advance the to Semifinal round.

Connecticut should be proud as Stratford’s very own Alyssa Naeher, the USWNT goalie, made two HUGE saves during the shoot-out to secure the win. Yeah Alyssa! Congrats to the whole team… now let’s bring home that gold medal.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do Olympic divers shower after every dive?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do Olympic divers shower after every dive?

If you’ve been watching any of the diving events in the summer Olympics you’ve probably noticed one interesting thing that every diver does. They shower in between dives. But why?!

I thought it might have been to wash the chlorine and chemicals off? But that’s not it at all. The pool water is very cold and can easily make you cramp up, so they take a warm shower or sit in the hot tub between dives to keep their muscles loose. Now, why can’t they just make the pool water warmer? I guess that is a decision that gets made by people who are much more qualified than us.

Zoos are for animals, not people.  And if you are still jumping into the cages of apex predators in the year 2021 that’s all I need to know about you!  (3:05)

You may never win and Olympic medal, but what award have you won?  Anna and Producer Jon both won awards on the job, but it was Raven’s reaction to those awards that made winning truly sweet!  (7:00)

It’s time for Mommy’s Margarita Fridays!  Moms (and Dads!) call in the crazy stuff their kids did to them that earned them a margarita!  (29:16)

Every Friday, Raven’s wife Alicia calls in to give Raven a grade on how good of a husband he was that week!  This week, Alicia has been dealing with a mysterious foot injury, which could have been Raven’s chance to step up and earn himself an “A”!  But did he?  (33:16)

Ray and Maureen love throwing Game Night’s at their house, but Maureen want’s to institute a “no cell phone” rule.  Ray says this is over the top, but Maureen thinks it will force people to participate more!  Whose side are you on?  (37:15)

Tracy has got a shot at $1000!  All she has to do is beat Raven at pop culture trivia!  (45:55)

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Westport woman saves the day for newly married couple

Stories like this are great for teaching us that it’s always smart to do the right thing when you find any sort of money or belongings someone may have lost.

23-year-old Gabrielle Perry from Westport recently found a card on the ground with $500 inside of it. She was heading to dinner in South Norwalk when she came across the envelope that read “Thank you for marrying us. From Christina and Dave”. She put 2 and 2 together and quickly realized this couple had lost the gift for the person who married them.

Thanks to a quick Google search of their names she found their wedding website and registry which helped her contact them and get the gift card back. The couple thought it was lost forever so as you can imagine they were very excited to get it back.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How deep are the Olympic pools?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How deep are the Olympic pools?

Let’s keep the Olympic theme going for today’s mystery… how deep are the pools in the Summer Olympics?

The regular swimming pools for the swimming events in Tokyo are almost 10 feet deep.  Pretty standard. The diving pools which obviously need to be deeper are between 10 and 16 feet depending on the event.  The high dive uses the deepest part. I would hope so!
