TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Rhode Island Teenager Turns Hobby Into Act of Kindness

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Rhode Island Teenager Turns Hobby Into Act of Kindness

We’ve all rummaged through a yard sale or thrift store and found a few items we could turn around for profit. But how often have you used that hobby for good?

This 16-year-old kid in Rhode Island has been buying up abandoned storage units after people can’t pay their bill. Then going through all the stuff to see what he could keep and sell to make money. Until recently when he had the epiphany that he should try and do something good with these units. So what he started to do was keep some of the items and then track down the original owner of the unit to give them all their stuff back. As you can imagine the people are usually shocked when he shows up.

What a great idea.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do pirates wear earrings?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do pirates wear earrings?

Pirates do a lot of wacky things. But one staple of every pirate it seems is wearing lots of jewelry. Especially earrings.

Why is that?

A few reasons actually. First, is that back in the day lots of sailors and pirates collected trinkets from their travels which they made into earrings to show off how many places they’ve been to. Another reason is that there used to be an old belief that wearing earrings could prevent and even CURE bad eyesight. If you’re on lookout for enemies you need that good eyesight from the perch. The third reason was that some believed having earrings in prevented seasickness. And anyone that’s ever been sick at sea can agree you’ll try ANYTHING to stop that from happening.

ARRRRRR!

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Guy Sets World Record AND Raises Money For Charity

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Guy Sets World Record AND Raises Money For Charity

Push-ups are not an easy thing to do. If you’ve ever tried you know how difficult it can be. For the past year I’ve been doing 60 a day in the morning and it’s still a struggle once I get past the 30 mark. So I can’t even imagine doing what this Dad in Wisconsin did.

His name is Nate Carroll and he recently set a world record by doing more than 1.5 MILLION push-ups for charity over the past year.  If you’re wondering, that’s an average of about 4,000 a day. WAY more than my daily 60.

Nate is doing the challenge for great cause to. Raising money for a group called the Tunnels to Towers Foundation. They are an organization that offers housing and mortgage assistance to the families of officers and firefighters who are killed in the line of duty.

Great job, Nate. I am now motivated to up my push-up game a bit.
