Such a great extra special surprise for this boy.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why are most basketballs orange?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why are most basketballs orange?

With March Madness starting this weekend and everyone filling out their brackets today’s mystery is basketball themed. Why are most basketballs orange?

The main reason is visibility. Back before the 1950s all basketballs were dark brown. Until Butler University’s head basketball coach Tony Hinkle decided the brown color was hard for everyone to see. The players, the fans, the coaches, and refs all complained about it. So he decided to choose a much brighter more visible color, orange! And it’s been that way ever since.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: The Man Who’s Been Donating Blood For 37 Years Has Helped Save Thousands Of Lives

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: The Man Who’s Been Donating Blood For 37 Years Has Helped Save Thousands Of Lives

Most people have donated blood at some point in their lives, but nothing compares to the amount this guy has donated.

From Texas, his name is Marcos Perez and he has been donating blood every two weeks for 37 YEARS! Specifically blood “platelets,” which take longer but can help more people in need.

Marcos had a blood transfusion which saved his life as a baby.  So he started doing it this in 1984, as soon as he was old enough to donate.  And pretty soon, he’ll hit the ONE-THOUSAND donation mark.  The most recent time he went was his 962nd blood donation. So far he has helped just under 3,000 people. Unbelievable.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Is It “St. Paddy’s” or “St. Patty’s”?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Is It “St. Paddy’s” or “St. Patty’s”?

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Now if you’re posting on social you’ve probably seen and typed it both ways Paddy’s with a D’s and Patty’s with T’s. According to a new poll 49% of Americans go with the T version, 29% go with the D version, and the rest aren’t sure. But which is the real correct way?

Don’t worry, I found the answer for you.

People with Irish heritage are more likely to use the D version. This is the original, authentic Irish abbreviation. Reason being because the patron saint of Ireland is St. Padraig, which has a D in the name.  In English, the name is St. Patrick, which is where the T’s come from.

So if you want to be authentic and true to Ireland go with Paddy’s.
