MUNDANE MYSTERY: Why are most doorknobs brass?

MUNDANE MYSTERY: Why are most doorknobs brass?

Okay not EVERY doorknob is brass, but let’s be honest most of them are. But why?

It’s not just for the shiny look. There is a practical reason too that is especially important in 2020. Brass actually destroys bacteria. So this make the doorknob, which get touched hundreds if not thousands of times a day depending where the door is, essentially germ-proof. It’s also perfect if you have a lot of kids running around your house. Just one more protection along with your hand sanitizer and wipes.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do hospital doctors wear white coats?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do hospital doctors wear white coats?

Doctors and nurses across the world have been working on the front lines of this pandemic this year. We are thankful to each and every one of them. Most doctors in hospitals you will find wearing white coats, but why white?

Way back in the 19th century they were originally wore black coats to hide any stains and to look more formal/professional. But later in the century the medical world decided they wanted the aesthetics of everything in the hospital to look as clean as possible. White coats signified “cleanliness” much more than black and reflected the overall movement against germs.
