TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: The Drive Thru Haunted House That Actually Leaves You Smiling By The End

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: The Drive Thru Haunted House That Actually Leaves You Smiling By The End

Tis the season for haunted everything. Hayrides, houses, trails, you name it. Obviously Covid has put a bit of a broomstick in some of those plans, but some people are getting very creative with their pandemic friendly haunted attractions.

This one place in Tokyo Japan decided to use an empty parking garage to create what they call a “Haunted Drive-Thru Experience”.  You stay in your car the whole time while zombies, monsters, blood, and whatever else they come up with, rain down on your car. Make sure to leave those windows rolled up I guess. You can even order an “extra bloody experience” by paying an additional $9. Which is hilarious. But the best part of the whole thing? At the end they wash your car for you!

The found of the idea Kenta Iwana told CNN Travel ,  “With the virus, I knew there would be no way we could have a traditional haunted house, with all that screaming in a small confined space, when I read that drive-through theaters were making a comeback, it was my ‘aha’ moment.

Brilliant idea. I love it.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What Actually Happens When Your Food or Drink Goes “down the wrong pipe”?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What Actually Happens When Your Food or Drink Goes “down the wrong pipe”?

We’ve all had it happen. You take a bite or a sip at dinner when suddenly out of nowhere you start having a coughing fit while trying to tell everyone “no, no I’m fine. It went down the wrong pipe!”

But what exactly happens inside that body of yours when it goes down that dreaded wrong pipe?

There are actually more than 30 muscles at work when you start to chew and swallow something. When the food or drink gets past the chew stage and ready to head down to your stomach it faces a crossroads of two different “pipes”. The esophagus and the trachea. You want the esophagus route which takes a non-stop trip right to the tummy, NOT the trachea. Since your body is very smart it already knows this and closes off that trachea pathway so nothing enters. But every once in a while air gets in the way from talking, breathing, etc… sometimes the food gets by the barricade and down that “wrong pipe” road triggering that awful coughing fit.

Obviously this can be way more scary with food rather than liquid because of the choking factor. So the most important thing you can do is try to avoid talking with your mouth full and chew your food into smaller pieces. Just like Mom and Dad always told you growing up.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Guy Spends $5,000 To Buy Random People Groceries

With so many people struggling lately financially from the pandemic it’s always great to see someone step up and help out if they can. I always love these pay it forward type stories.

This one business owner who’s from Idaho celebrated his birthday last week in what might be the most generous way ever.  He sent some of his employees to a grocery store with $5,000, and had them pay for random people’s groceries.  He wanted to do it quietly under the radar but of course the local news station caught wind of it.

Here’s the segment they ran on how it all came about and some of the grateful customers who got the big surprise.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why Does Orange Juice Taste Horrible After Brushing Your Teeth?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why Does Orange Juice Taste Horrible After Brushing Your Teeth?

We’ve all had that moment in the morning. You brush your teeth in the morning while getting ready then while eating a quick breakfast before you head out the door, you take a sip of your orange juice. YUCK! Possible the worst tasting thing of all time. Completely ruins your morning.

But what causes this to happen?

According to howstuffworks.com, the foaming agent used in most toothpaste is what you can blame for the unappealing taste. It’s called sodium lauryl sulfate. It actually dampens the sweet receptors in your mouth. This means your delicious orange juice and anything else you might eat or drink will not taste as sweet in those moments after brushing your teeth.

Also, sodium lauryl sulfate destroys the molecules in your mouth that usually help to prevent bitter tastes from being too strong. This means that the toothpaste not only works to make the orange juice less sweet, it also amplifies its bitterness. Thanks a lot TOOHPASTE! These two effects are what team up together to create the horrible taste. Like a flavor super villain.

So if you’re planning on having a nice glass of OJ maybe wait to brush your teeth until after.
