TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Kids Find And Return Woman’s Purse After It Was Stolen Three Years Ago

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Kids Find And Return Woman’s Purse After It Was Stolen Three Years Ago

If you’ve ever lost your wallet, purse, or phone you know that instant feeling of worry that comes over you about all your info being out there in someone else’s hands. Imagine feeling that way for THREE years!

That’s what happened to this woman in Nebraska who had her purse stolen in 2017. Just recently a group of fourth grade kids who were playing in the woods came across the lost purse. They decided to do the right thing and hand deliver it to Mallory Pittman-Morris. Who had it stolen from her car when she was watching her son’s soccer game. She thought she would never see the purse again. When the boys showed up with it she says it restored her faith in humanity. That there are still good people.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why Are Pumpkins Orange?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why Are Pumpkins Orange?

Since today is National Pumpkin Day I figured we’d dive into one of this season’s great questions… why are pumpkins orange?

If you’ve been to a pumpkin patch this year for pumpkin picking you’ve probably noticed that pumpkins change color from green to orange. For pretty much the same reason you see tree leaves change color in the fall. They also change under the same conditions as leaves. Most pumpkins contain organic pigments called carotenoids. That’s what gives their flesh and skin that classic orange color we all know and love. But you’ve probably seen pumpkins are not orange. How does THAT happen?! Certain pumpkins are bred to be white, red or even blue on purpose. A lot of things factor in to making this happen like day length, temperature, and moisture in the air.

So when you’re sitting down to carve pumpkins this week now you can tell the whole family why they are orange!

Anna & Raven’s Crocktober Begins with Chicken Fiesta Soup!

Listen to Raven giving it a try right here!

Curious to try the soup and want to make it yourself?! We have the recipe right here for you!

4 cups chicken broth (one 32 oz box)
2 to 3 large boneless chicken breasts
2 cans of Great Northern White Beans
2 medium Onions, diced
1 packet Taco Seasoning Mix
1 packet Ranch Dressing Mix
Red Pepper Flakes 1 tsp or more (if desired)
Put all the ingredients into the crock pot on low.  Cook for 4 hours. Remove chicken to bowl and shred, then place back into pot.  About an hour before you want to eat the soup, add in 1 bag frozen corn.  If you want to eat right away, microwave the frozen corn according to directions on bag, then add into the pot.
When ready to serve, add in 1 cup milk (warmed) and stir.
If you like a thicker soup, take about 2 cups of the soup out, place into food processor and puree, then add back into soup pot.  Serve with sprinkled shredded cheddar cheese and/or tablespoons of sour cream just prior to eating.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Family Creates COVID-19 Friendly Candy Launcher For Safe Trick or Treating On Halloween

Everyone is trying to figure out the safest way to have a fun Halloween during a pandemic. I think this family in Pennsylvania has come up with the best idea ever.

They have created a COVID-19 friendly candy launcher. Which is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a spring-operated catapult that launches candy out into their yard. They even set up a lighted drop zone in the yard to help kids find the candy when it’s dark out on Halloween night.

Here’s the video, check it out…

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How Does Our GPS Know Exactly Where We Are?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How Does Our GPS Know Exactly Where We Are?

You’ve probably used your GPS at least a few time already just today. We’re all used to it being so easy now whether you use Google Maps, Apple Maps, or Waze. It just works. But how?!

GPS (Global Positioning System) is made up of more than 30 satellites that circle the Earth. Your GPS receiver in the device (phone, car, etc…) listens to all these signals until it can calculate distance from four or more of the GPS satellites. From there it can figure out where you are. Science!

So now the next time you’re looking up how to get to the nearest Dunkin’ you know exactly what’s happening. A lot going on in that millisecond between your phone and space.
