MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What are the metal loops on grocery cart handles for?

You’ve probably been doing a lot of grocery shopping this year. As you’re pushing your cart out of the store or loading up your bags you may have noticed the metal loops on the grocery cart handle. Right at the seat where kids can sit. But what are they for?!

It actually serves a very practical purpose that most people have no idea about. That loop is meant to hang bags with delicate items, like eggs or bread, which you don’t want crushed under everything. So as you walk your cart out to the car they can hang right from that loop.

Totally trying this next time I make a grocery run.
