MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What’s the difference between Iced Coffee and Cold Brew?

Mmm… coffee. One of my favorite topics. When it comes to iced coffee and cold brew a lot of people think they are the same. But they are very different!

Iced coffee is made by brewing hot coffee, letting it cool, and then pouring it over ice. It’s quite literally hot coffee with iced that has cooled off. It does make for a very refreshing treat on a nice day though.

The main thing that makes cold brew different is that it’s made without heat. You steep ground coffee in cool, filtered water for hours at a time, which is what takes away a lot of the acidity you get with regular drip coffee. This is also why you get that sort of smooth, velvety, almost sweet taste with cold brew. Mmmmm.. I do love a cold brew.

the other question everyone always wonders is about the caffeine. Cold brew does in fact have a tad more because the coffee grounds are in longer contact with the water which means cold brew contains more caffeine than iced coffee.
