MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What does the “TY” stand for on the Beanie Baby tag?

You may have been one of the many people who collected Beanie Babies in the mid-90s. It was a toy phenomenon. There’s actually a great documentary on HBO Max right now about the whole company and story. It’s called “Beanie Mania”.

Anyway, you probably remember that little tag on all the stuffed animals with the letters “TY” on it. What did that stand for?

Ty, Inc was actually the name of the company which was founded by a man named H. Ty Warner. He was a forty-something eccentric guy who always wanted to build a stuffed toy that was better than all the rest. He had worked at toy companies in the Chicago area where he’s from for year. But the beanie baby craze was his claim to fame.
