MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why is it called the Grammys?

Congrats to all the Grammy winners last night. Olivia Rodrigo and Silk Sonic both took home multiple awards. But why are they called the “Grammys” anyway?

It goes back to the first Grammy Awards in 1959. The trophy they made resembled a gold plated gramophone, also known as a photograph or record player. It’s still that shape to this day. The word “Grammy” was a tribute to the name of the gramophone which had a massive impact on music at the time.
