MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why are there 52 cards in a deck of playing cards?

You’ve played with them for your whole life and every time you shuffle before a game of solitaire or Go Fish you probably wonder “why 52?”

There are a lot of theories online as to why that random number, but the most common one amongst history buffs seems to be that they are supposed to represent the 52 “weeks” of the year.

Then it goes even deeper… each suit (hearts, diamonds, spades, clubs) represent the four season of the year, and then the thirteen cards in the suit are the thirteen lunar cycles.
