TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Father and son bond at basketball game and their photo goes viral

This story has sort of been everywhere the last few day. You might have seen it in your feed.

A coal miner in Kentucky had been wanted to take his 3-year-old son to a Kentucky basketball game and finally found the time last weekend. The only thing was he had to go straight from work in his dirty work clothes and covered head to tow in coal dust.

The University of Kentucky basketball team was so was touched by the story that they have reached out and offered free tickets to the man and his son for any game this season.  They will be attending a game in January against Kansas. When I’m sure he will have more time to plan and get ready around his work schedule.

A lot of the local businesses in the area have also offered his family free meals and a hotel room for that night. So nice! I love how sports brings people together like this.

By now you’ve probably carved up a few Jack-O-Lanterns for your front porch. But why do we carve pumpkins anyway? Where did that come from?

The modern holiday we know as Halloween really started way back with the Irish festival, “Samhain,’ which was meant to recognize the transition from summer into winter.

During the festival people would have bonfires and it was believed that evil spirits lurked in the surrounding shadows near the fire. To keep the evil spirits away they would carve scary faces into hollowed out pumpkins, turnips, and various other crops. Then they would place them in the windows and along the road.

Now, they are mostly used as decoration. But always good to know that they could be keeping away a few evil doers at the same time.

Anna has three crazy news stories and Raven is going to pick one to talk about!  Today his options are; A man who injured himself at a corn maze, a sheriff with a trippy childhood story, and a meat theft ring! (3:43)

Every parent takes a little candy out of their kid’s Halloween bag, but if you do it on Halloween night, that’s all I need to know about you! (7:41)

Could you crush a pumpkin with your thighs?  Anna tasked Producer Sean with trying it out, but Producer Jon suggested a challenge of his own…  (11:13)

Zach and Nicky have elaborate Halloween decoarations in their yard. This year there was a complaint with one section of the yard that has severed plastic baby doll heads. The town reached out saying that it may have gone too far but it was up to them if they wanted to remove it. Zach says no way, it’s their yard and it’s Halloween! Scary is scary! Nicky says it’s not their goal to anger the neighbors. What would you do? (35:49)

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Crime stopper great-grandmother stops purse thief

Let this be a lesson to all criminals out there, you don’t want to mess with grandma energy.

Like this one great-grandmother out in Oakland, CA who recently stopped a purse thief from robbing her neighbor. The thief jumped out of a car and trying to snag the person, until our grandma hero saw what was happening and threw her cane at the car to scare them off. It worked! They fled without the purse.

You go grandma!

Congrats, you’re off the hook candy corn! Circus Peanuts have voted the new worst Halloween candy this year. The BEST and still champion is the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. As it should be.

For years I could never pinpoint what the actual flavor these orange looking marshmallow peanuts was. The original orange colored one is an artificial banana flavoring.

Another little fun tidbit about the Circus peanuts… without them we would’ve never got Lucky Charms. That’s right, back in 1964 a General Mills employee chopped some of the circus peanuts candy pieces into a bowl of Cheerios and boom Lucky Charms was born.

Please don’t hangout Circus Peanuts for Halloween this year. No one wants them. ha ha
