TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Hudson River plane survivor returns to river for a good cause

Okay remember that crazy story dubbed “Miracle on the Hudson” with the plane that crash-landed in the Hudson River in 2009? Sully the pilot was the hero, they even made a movie based on it all. Well now one of the passengers recently returned to the river to raise money for a really good cause.

His name is Dave Sanderson and he was one of the guys who helped to make sure everyone got off the plane safely once it landed.  A few weeks ago he teamed up with the Navy SEALS to do a 3.1 mile swim on the river raising money for a veterans charity called the G.I. Go Fund.

Amazing to see a lot of good still coming from that scary moment all these years later.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Where did the phrase “to pass with flying colors” come from?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Where did the phrase “to pass with flying colors” come from?

The school year is starting up which means report cards and exam grades are also coming soon.

The phrase “pass with flying colors” gets thrown around a lot this time of year. But where did it come from?

The phrase itself means “to be extremely successful, to achieve something that is difficult, to excel”

It was first used way back when battle ships would return home with their “colors” (another word for flags) flying high to show they won and were coming back home safe with a victory.

Good luck on all those tests, kids. Hope you pass them all with flying colors.

Tell Me Something Good: Grandmother sings Karaoke for store full of people

Tell Me Something Good: Grandmother sings Karaoke for store full of people

Everyone loves karaoke. You, me, and grandmas!

This one grandmother in Ohio shops at a Goodwill store all the time and recently she went in to find a karaoke machine to bring back to her nursing home. She loves karaoke and has already worn out TWO other machines.

Luckily she found one on the shelf. Another customer helped her get it off the shelf and only asked for her to sing a song in return. So she belted out a few tunes for the customers in the store.

Then when we got up to the cashier another person paid for the machine and bought it for her. That’s best part of karaoke. People of all ages can do it.

Here is the video of her singing:

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: When did kids start using backpacks for school?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: When did kids start using backpacks for school?

You’d think that backpacks have always been a part of the school culture, but that actually isn’t true. It wasn’t until 1972 that backpacks were used by students at University of Washington. Back then the company JanSport. who were based in Seattle, had only been making them for hikers and outdoorsy types. They realized there could be a market for students since they were carrying so many heavy booked to class each day.

Kids have been using them every since!

Wednesday August 24, 2022:  Found in Your New Place; Wedding Guest Regret; Worst Job Ever

You know your dogs love you, but you may not realize how much!  Raven read a new study about how dogs react to their owners and it’s guaranteed to bring a tear to your eye!  (:30)

Everyone has a busy schedule these days, but if you’re the type of person who never makes the time to respond to RSVP’s, then that’s all I need to know about you!  (3:16)

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?  Raven’s wife Alicia has been on the show all week long and its been tough but it’s no where near the worst job she’s ever had!  (6:37)

Have you ever moved into a new place and found something that you didn’t expect?  Raven and his wife once lived in a place that was owned by the worst kind of dog owner!  (16:22)

Did you have a guest at your wedding that you wish hadn’t been there?  After thinking about their own wedding, Raven and Alicia are pretty sure they would have cut their own guest list in half!  (22:04)

Alicia is going on a girl’s trip soon and Raven thinks it’s the perfect time to order a dumpster and start throwing things out! Alicia wants him to wait until she can help because Raven tends to throw things out that he shouldn’t. Should he get the dumpster and throw out what he chooses, or should he wait for Alicia? Whose side are you on?  (29:02)

Adam has got a shot at $600!  Can he beat Raven in pop culture trivia and win that money?  (36:05)
