MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How is the official outside temperature taken?

It’s been super hot out lately, but if you look at the official temp it might seem lower than how hot it actually feels. There’s a good reason for that.

When the official temperature is take there are some requirements. It has to be taken 5 feet above the ground since the ground gives off heat that could skew the number. It also has to be take outside in the shade. Direct sunlight could also skew it.

So that’s why most times it “Feels like” much hotter than what your phone or the local weather people are saying.
