TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Pilot comes to the rescue of little girl’s tooth

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Pilot comes to the rescue of little girl’s tooth

With all the crazy stories of people on places, airlines, and airports lately it’s always nice to hear a feel good nice story like this one.

A little girl was flying with her family back to their home in South Carolina after traveling internationally overseas when she lost her tooth mid flight! The worst part was that she couldn’t find it. They looked all over the plane and no luck. Obviously she was very upset because she planned to put it under her pillow for the tooth fairy when she got home.

That’s when the pilot of the plane stepped up in a huge way. He decided to write a note to the Tooth Fairy for her. It said, “Dear Tooth Fairy:  Lena had a tooth fall out on her flight to Greenville.  Please take this note in place of her tooth.”  Then he signed it “Captain Josh.

So sweet. Pilots are the best.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What are sparkers made of?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What are sparkers made of?

Sparklers are one of the most fun 4th of July traditions. While they are much milder than a real firework, it’s still fire on a stick so it’s important to be careful and safe when using them. Especially around kids.

But what are sparklers actually made of to make them look so cool?

A sparkler is typically made from a metal wire coated with a mix of chemicals. The chemicals are connected to the top of part that you hold, a thin stick or wire usually. The most common fuel combination is sulfur and charcoal. To bind it together they sometimes use sugar, starch. The mix of metals like potassium, titanium or aluminum, and dextrin are what creates the sparks. Aluminum or magnesium also helps the looks of that famous white glow.

Happy 4th!
