TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Double amputee complete world record of sailing around the world solo

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Double amputee complete world record of sailing around the world solo

Breaking a world record is hard enough as it is, now imaging doing it without an arm and a leg.

Like Dustin Reynolds from Hawaii who recently did exactly that. The first ever double amputee to sail around the world solo. Which took roughly 7 years off and on to do. Amazing.

Dan lost his arm and leg back in 2008 after a drunk driver hit him head on while he was riding his motorcycle.  Now he celebrates the anniversary of the crash every year because he says “it’s the day he decided to start living”. This latest accomplishment definitely proves that. Congrats Dan!

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why don’t we ever see the Supreme Court in session?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why don’t we ever see the Supreme Court in session?

With the Supreme Court all over the news lately with many different high profile cases a lot of people are wondering why we never see the court in session. There actually hasn’t been a photograph of the Supreme Court in session since 1937! They’ve had a ban on cameras in the courtroom ever since then.

One of the main reasons is that the court wants to preserve its tradition. They also don’t want the media to use embarrassing sound bites or footage from their oral arguments and believe that cameras will just encourage showboating.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: 19-Year-Old Milford Golfer Makes His Debut At Travelers Championship

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: 19-Year-Old Milford Golfer Makes His Debut At Travelers Championship

It’s always exciting when the PGA Tour rolls through Connecticut. The annual Travelers Championship is happening this week in Cromwell. Some of the biggest names in golf are competing, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, and one of Connecticut’s own! 19-year-old Ben James from Milford, CT tee’d it up Thursday for the first time at the Travelers. Playing as an amateur he did really well in rounds one and two. Shooting a 72 (+2) on Thursday and a 69 (-1) on Friday (+1 for the tournament). Unfortunately he will not make the cut for the weekend as the scores for the top players are pretty nuts. But what a debut!

Ben has a bright future ahead too. He just graduated high school this year and will be heading to the University of Virginia. For someone who started playing competitive golf at the age of FOUR it’s safe to say this will not be the last we see of Benjamin James playing golf at a high level.

Good luck Ben!

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How did Seagulls get their name?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How did Seagulls get their name?

Now that it’s summer you’ll be seeing them all the time squawking and trying to steal your fries. Except “Seagull” isn’t actually their name at all!

Serious bird experts get very mad when people called them seagulls. Which is really just slang that has been developed over time. In reality there is no such thing as a seagull. The correct term is simply “gull,”. While some of them do hang out near the sea, they don’t live exclusively near the sea.

I’ll be honest, I’m going to have a hard time just calling them “gulls”.
