TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Couple ties the knot at 37,000 feet in airborne wedding

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Couple ties the knot at 37,000 feet in airborne wedding

I’ve heard of some wacky wedding ideas before, but never this!

This couple in Oklahoma started dating in 2020 during the pandemic. They had been planning to get married now that things are getting back to normal. They wanted to do a Vegas Chapel. So they reserved a date, time, booked a flight and everthing. Then as luck would have it… their flight got cancelled last minute. Missing their ceremony time.

They decided to get on the next flight anyway and would just figure it all out when the land. But then something amazing happened. They decided to just do it on the Southwest airlines plane mid-flight!

A guy they had met at the airport happened to be an ordained minister heading to Vegas to marry another couple anyway so they asked him to do it. They had flight attendants making streamers out of toilet paper, one of them stood in as the maid of honor, and there was even professional photographer on board who took photos! Crazy. MY favorite part? A passenger giving them a leftover powdered donut to cut as the wedding cake.

This is truly a moment they will remember for the rest of their lives. Good for them.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How do they get the red pimentos into olives?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How do they get the red pimentos into olives?

Olives are usually a love or hate type of food. I happen to LOVE them. Especially the green kind. But I’ve always wondered how they get that red pimento in there?

Up until the 1960s the pimentos were actually stuffed into the olives by hand! Crazy right? Now technology has improved so much that there is a special olive machine made in Spain that removes the olive pit, inserts the pimento, and makes that famous X shaped deign on the bottom. Pretty neat!

Now, if it’s the weekend and I’m making some dirty martini’s I will be removing those pimentos myself and hand inserting some blue cheese. Yum.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Fairfield Middle School Students to compete against the world with their minds!

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Fairfield Middle School Students to compete against the world with their minds!

As I always say on the show you can email me your good news or story anytime. Just send it to [email protected] and you might hear it on the air weekdays at 3:30pm. That is exactly what Megan Quinn did today about this amazing group of middle school students in Fairfield.

Here was her email:

Hi Kevin –

A team of middle school students from Tomlinson Middle School in Fairfield have won the CT Odyssey of the Mind competition, and are headed to Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa next month to compete in the World Finals. Over 800 teams from around the world come together for the competition. Our kids are representing their school, town, and all of CT and we are so proud of them.

I am fundraising for the team. The trip is not cheap. It will cost approximately $20,000 for our team to attend in Iowa, where they will stay on campus. I am fundraising to ease some of the cost for the families so that our children can participate in this unique opportunity.

I would love it if you could promote this great accomplishment on your show or social media. We could also have the kids come to your studio to talk about Odyssey of the Mind if that is an option? Below is a link to the GoFundMe page we started.

So exciting right?!

A little more background on their project. Because of Covid, they worked together all year in a cold garage to solve a problem in an original eight-minute musical production. The student members wrote the skit and three songs, built their sets out of recycled materials and designed and created their costumes. It is the true educational embodiment of all STEM curriculum. Their skit focused on Alice Ball, an African American female chemist who developed the first cure for leprosy.

Good luck to all the students! And if you can help them out even a little bit I’m sure they would greatly appreciate it.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Do we really need 8 hours of sleep?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Do we really need 8 hours of sleep?

You’ve heard this all your life. “get your 8 hours!” “did you get 8 hours?” “make sure you get 8 if you want to be rested”. but is that true?

Almost.

A group of researchers have recently found that to get the PERFECT amount of sleep anyone between the ages of 38-73 should sleep for 7 hours a night. So, we were close! This will allow you to maintain strong cognitive performance and peak mental health.

You also do not want to overseep or undersleep. Both things can really impact your health and how you function throughout the day.
