Every Thursday in The Feed Kevin talks to Kallie from ButFirstCoffee Blog.com about all things parenting and mom life. Now that they kids are home from school for the summer that means snacking around the clock. This week Kallie has some great, fun food ideas to make at home with your kids.
KALLIE’S FUN SNACKS WITH KIDS
POPSICLES: I love having a set of popsicle molds, they are SO easy to make and the kids love them plus you can make them healthier adding chia seeds, sweetening with dates and even throwing some greens in! My best tip is use a pineapple or banana base, they are a good strong flavor. My go to is banana, pineapple, one date, chai seeds, and coconut milk.
FRUIT PIZZA: You bake sugar cookies (either individual or make one big one like a pizza) then when cooled you’ll frost it with a cream cheese frosting (my easy go to for this recipe is 1 block of softened cream cheese, 1/2 a tub of cool whip and about a 1/2 cup of powdered sugar and you can add a little vanilla extract, then you’ll use chopped fruits as your toppings, kids love making these.
OVERNIGHT OATS: I love making a couple of these to keep in the fridge and great for summer break because it’s quick and fillling, you can google ALL kinds of recipes but basically it’s quick oats and you fully submerge in your milk of choice, I like almond or hemp milk because it has a nutty flavor. Then you can have so much fun with this, add different sweeteners like ample syrup, brown sugar or honey, mix in cinnamon or vanilla extract, add cut up fruit, dried fruit, mini chocolate chips, coconut flakes, really the options are endless and you can really customize it to your kid’s preferences.

If you have a bucket list of life goals now is the time to get started on achieving them. If you need some motivation here’s a story for you.
Les Binns is a 48 year old veteran from the U.K. He was in Afghanistan in 2009 when a bomb went off and blinded him in one eye. Now all these years later he hasn’t let that set him back from his life goals. One of which was to climb Mount Everest. His first two attempts he never got to the summit because both times he turned back to help save other climbers who were struggling along the way. Then on his third try last month he finally did it! Proving why you should never give up, and also get going on that bucket list.

If you have young kids you’re probably familiar with the many variations of the song Wheels on The Bus. In fact there are so MANY version I was wondering how all these people are able to keep doing the song without copyright issues like Happy Birthday. So who wrote it anyway?
It’s not so clear. Some people think the song was originally created by Verna Hills in the 1800s. The earliest known publishing of the lyrics is the December 1937 issue of American Childhood.
Others think it was based on the melody to the famous nursery rhyme “Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush” Nursery rhymes are considered to be in the public domain, so, using the copyright rule of thumb of 70 years after the composers death this music is considered to be in the public domain if it was in fact created in the 1800s. So I guess that’s why all these shows are able to use it.

It’s no secret we are up very early for our job, but why do you get up so early? Do you have to hit the gym before work? Take the dog for a walk? You may want to start waking up early when you find out what time they claim successful people wake up.
