Thursday March 10, 2022:  Kid Complaints Continue; Producer Jon Gets Breadcrumbed; Heardle

What’s the first body part you wash when you get in the shower?  The answer might say a lot about your personality!  (:25)

Anna’s got three crazy news stories and Raven is gonna pick one to talk about!  Today his options are; giant spiders invading the east coast, a person who got stuck in a waterslide, and a teacher who bit a student because of a vegetable!  (2:52)

They may have similar sounding names, but if you can’t tell the difference between a brutal dictator and a delicious Canadian delicacy, that’s all I need to know about you!  (6:37)

Are “Forever Stamps” really good forever?  Anna and Raven have been having a fierce debate about it, so they decided to call in an expert!  (9:49)

Have you heard of “breadcrumbing”?  It’s a new trend going on in the modern dating scene and Anna is pretty sure it’s been happening to Producer Jon!  (13:23)

Has someone ever complained about your child to you?  Anna was put in this situation the other day, so she asked Parenting Educator Elisabeth Stitt what to do in that situation!  (17:10)

You’ve probably played Wordle, but have you ever played Heardle?  The new musical spinoff of Wordle is growing in popularity, so Anna decided to have the whole show play it!  (24:19)

Could you make it 24 hours without your phone?  That’s exactly what Producer Sean did for the last day!  (28:18)

Gas prices have gotten out of control recently, so Anna wanted to find out what member of the show has spent the most in the last week!  (32:03)

Jacob and Beth have finally booked the family trip to France for the summer. It’s been something they’ve wanted to do for years. Jacob casually invited his mother to join them, and she took the invitation to heart and agreed. Beth can’t believe he would make such a huge decision without consulting with her first. She wants a trip with just her husband and her children. Can you uninvite her?  (35:29)

Emanuel has got a shot at $2700!  All he has to do is beat Raven in pop culture trivia!  (43:46)

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Classroom’s unique idea to inspire and cheer people up takes off

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Classroom’s unique idea to inspire and cheer people up takes off

This is such a fantastic idea that the world could use more of lately.

A teacher in Northern California named Jessica Martin came up with the idea to launch a free hotline which had recordings of her kindergarten students giving encouraging words of life advice, uplifting messages, and even just the sound of kids laughing. They named it “Peptoc” which is great.

Jessica said she came up with the ideas after being inspired by how positive her students were during the pandemic these last few years. She thought it might inspire other people who need it, and turns out she was 100% right. Then they launched the hotline last month it already got over 700 calls in the first hour!

Love it.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What on earth is an Ice Box Cake?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What on earth is an Ice Box Cake?

The results are in and Connecticut’s favorite dessert is… Ice Box Cake. Wait, what now?

That’s right, one of those wacky Google search articles came out about each state’s favorite dessert. Obviously Ice Cream, Jell-O, and cake were all big winners. But then I got down to Connecticut and saw that ours was “Ice Box Cake” which I had never heard of until today.

After doing some research I found out that it’s basically a layer cake which doesn’t require any baking. It’s just ingredients in a glass dish like wafer cookies, cream, condensed milk, fruit, or whatever else you might want in it. You can customize it any way you want as long as it has the cream-and-cookie base.

The Ice Box name comes from when they started making these back in the early 20th century before mechanical refrigeration was popular. People only had “Ice Boxes” to keep things cold. So that’s what they would use to make the cake cold.

Yum!

Raven’s Pet Pals – Meet Dewey!

Raven’s Pet Pals – Meet Dewey!

Dewey is sweet, but nervous, he has never shown aggression, his only behavior is when he gets pushed socially, he starts biting the leash which off puts a lot of people. So for Dewey, if everyone just ignore him, let him sniff them, and then I give his treats to the people who will interact with him, then he will warm up calmly and can take a few pets. Too many pets and the behavior will also trigger, baby voices (which we often do to be nice to a dog), can trigger him too.

He loves other dogs, very dog savvy, cats and small animals is not a match as he does have high prey drive. He enjoys walks and hikes, as well as loves to train and lots of toys.

He is a very beautiful and lovely dog, but this is the reason no one wishes to give him a chance, they just see his “bad” side.. Once he warms up, he is off the chart amazing.

We suspect lack of early socialization as well as possible manhandling in his younger days causing this initial anxiety he has.

This is a new year and Dewey is hoping someone is ready to welcome him and give him the love he so deserves. If you would like to meet Dewey, please complete our online application. Here is the link to the app: https://daws.org/daws-forms/

DAWS is also looking for anyone who is interested in fostering Dewey for some time! If you are interested in that, please do not hesitate to reach out and inquire about being Dewey’s foster family!
