TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Habitat for Humanity makes first 3D printed home for single mom and her son

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Habitat for Humanity makes first 3D printed home for single mom and her son

With supply chain issues cropping up all over the place lately this idea might be the best way to build a home.

Habitat for Humanity built their first home here on the East Coast using 3D printing. The new home was built for a single mother names April and her 13-year-old son.

It was made in just 12 hours. Saving about 4 weeks of construction time. It even comes with a mini 3D printer incase you need to replace little thinks like light switches, door knobs, etc…  the home also has solar panels which make it a smart home to they will save on energy costs.

With prices so high for supplies especially lumber the organization said they saved around15% per square foot compared to what normal building cots would be.

The home is made completely our of concrete. It’s a 1,200 square-foot house with 2 full bathrooms. The concrete actually retains temperature better than wood so that will help them save on heating and cooling costs. It will help the walls hold up better to severe storms like hurricanes too.

A touching part of the whole story is how April remembers when she was a kid that her great-grandmother also lived in a concrete style home so she is carrying on the tradition.

Who knows, maybe your next house will be 3d printed!

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How did the month of January get it’s name?

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2022. Another year begins with the month of January. But where did this month get it’s name from?

January is named after the Roman god “Janus”. He had two faces so he could see the future and the past. Much like how we are looking into the new year and remembering the year that just passed. Makes sense!
