TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD! The nice thing these police officers did for people they pulled over on Thanksgiving

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD! The nice thing these police officers did for people they pulled over on Thanksgiving

Hopefully you didn’t have too much stress traveling over Thanksgiving weekend. Traffic, crazy drivers, and then sometimes you see the flashing lights and your stress level instantly goes through the roof.

Luckily for these people in Mesa, Arizona they were instantly relieved once the officer came up to the window. These cops had no interest in giving out tickets on Thanksgiving Day this year… they were giving people turkeys! They say they just wanted to spread some holiday cheer for people traveling.

Love it!

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Where did the term “Cyber Monday” come from?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Where did the term “Cyber Monday” come from?

If you were born, lets say before 1990… then you probably remember the days of lining up 4am on Black Friday and the weeks that followed searching for those perfect gifts while battling crowds. Anyone younger has most likely done all their holiday shopping from their computer growing up.

With today being Cyber Monday I thought we’d take a trip down memory lane to talk about where and why this got created.

In 2005 The Nationa Retail Federation (yes a real thing) came up with the term “Cyber Monday” as the Monday following Thanksgiving weekend. This was because they started to notice that people were doing a lot of online shopping once they got back to work in the office. Because at the time no one really had high speed internet in their homes so everyone was getting their internet deals on the company dime.

That’s how today became one of the business shopping days of the year and dubbed “Cyber Monday”

Couples Court: Whitney and Michael’s seven-year-old has been bullied by the same girl in his class for a bit now. They’ve complained to the administration and her parents, and it has continued. Michael says they have no choice but to call the police and make them aware of the situation. Whitney says that’s crazy. You can’t call the police on a child! Their son needs to learn how to stand up for himself, and it’s not like she’s threatening his physically, it’s just teasing. Whose side are you on? (27:26)

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: One Dad’s four decade Thanksgiving tradition continues this year

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: One Dad’s four decade Thanksgiving tradition continues this year

Thanksgiving is all about “giving” and helping out others in need. That’s exactly what this one Dad in the Bronx has done for the last four decades.

Marty Rogers organizes a free Thanksgiving dinner through his church every year. A lot of churches do this type of thing, same with soup kitchens and shelters. But Marty is making headlines because he’s been doing it for so long. This will be the 44th year in a row he’s done it. A tradition that started as a free Thanksgiving for seniors, but now includes the homeless.  He had done it every year since 1977 and plans to continue this year.

Well done, Marty! Love it.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What happens to the giant balloons after the Macys Day Parade?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What happens to the giant balloons after the Macys Day Parade?

Tomorrow morning is the annual Macys Day Thanksgiving Parade. When you pour yourself some coffee plop down on the couch and get your turkey day started by watching giant Balloons float down NYC streets. The mundane mystery today…. what happens to those balloons after the parade?

Back in the early 1920s when the parade first started Macys used to have a WILD competition. At the end of the parade they would release the balloons into the air and whoever brought them back would get a cash reward. Insane right? And seems very dangerous. Turns out it was. In the 1930s Felix The Cat got caught in a high wire and caught fire. Disaster. Then a few years later another balloon hit a small plane, almost causing the plane to crash. Luckily everyone was okay. After these two incidents Macy’s announced it would not award prize money anymore and decided to end the tradition of releasing the balloons. Probably the smart decision.

Now, the balloons are usually safely stored in a storage area until the following year or used at other events.

Enjoy the parade!
