TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: 12-year-old Boy Scout saves couple and their dog

It’s one thing to get a merit badge as a boy scout. It’s a completely other to save people in real life while doing it!

This couple in Hawaii recently went hiking with their dog. While on the hike they got lost. It just so happened that a 12-year-old Boy Scout was out with his mom, trying to earn his merit badge for hiking in that same area. When the scout and his mom came across the couple they led them back to safety. Sadly their dog’s feet were so scraped up, it couldn’t walk.  Using his scout skills he managed to fashion together a stretcher out of a big tree branch and some t-shirts, and they carried the dog the rest of the way back.

Amazing! Give this kid all the badges and awards.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why did we start shaking hands?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why did we start shaking hands?

When the pandemic started in 2020 we all stopped shaking hands for a while. But I feel like hand shaking is coming back now. Why did we start shaking hands in the first place?

Way back in times of war and battle it was originally to show that you were unarmed.  It to show you trust and believe the other person you’re coming up to wasn’t going to take their sword out to fight you or try to kill you.

All these years later it’s just a nice gesture and less about being weary about sword fights.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: The story of a real-life Forest Gump!

Everyone remembers the scene at the end of Forest Gump when he ran across the country “I just started running… “

Well here’s a real-life Forest! This Air Force veteran named Jordan Moon just finished running from San Francisco to New York. He was raising money for brain cancer research. While running he averaged around 50 miles, or two full marathons per DAY! That’s a lot of running. He finished his run on Veterans Day last week.

Congrats Jordan. What a great accomplishment.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Where did the term “freelancer” come from?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Where did the term “freelancer” come from?

Freelancer is a popular job nowadays. But where did the term come from in the first place?

It goes back to the early 1800s in medieval times. a Freelancer was originally a title given to a self-employed, sword-wielding mercenaries… “free” “lancers”. They would often be hired to fight or protect someone who paid them the most. Riding on horseback with a sword.

Freelance work is much less violent usually now, but the term has stuck.
