Q: More of these are held on Thanksgiving Day than any other day of the year
That was the quote from 42 year old Fredi Bangwa when she crossed the finish line last Sunday as the final runner in the NYC Marathon.
Don’t worry, finishing last was not a negative thing at all for Fredi. It’s actually quite the opposite. She has rheumatoid arthritis, and had to do the last 10 miles of the race with a walker, but refused to quit. Her final time clocked in at just under 11 hours.
What a great story of determination and working towards a goal to accomplish. Congrats to Fredi on her marathon finish!
We’ve all had the experience of getting that extra bagel, loaf of bread, or treat from a bakery when buying a dozen. But why did baker’s decide to start doing this?
The common belief is that it all started back in medieval times. The English bakers would give an extra loaf when selling a dozen in order to avoid being penalized for selling a short weight. If sold bread that came in weighing less than was ordered they would face hefty fines or public shame for selling ‘underweight’ bread. therefore it was better for them to just give extra.
I always thought they were just being nice, but like most things in life it all comes down to the bottom line. Nowadays it’s more of a nice gesture/tradition though.

Q: This is the #1 thing people regret buying during the pandemic
The past few years it seems like it’s been nothing but negative headlines about health in the news. Until this new study came out recently.
It found that we’re gaining ground when it comes to winning the fight against breast cancer! For two of the three most common types of breast cancer, the average survival time has DOUBLED over the last decade.
I think all of us have been impacted by breast cancer in one way or another. Family, friends, yourself, so this is very encouraging to hear.
Dalmatians have become such an iconic part of a firehouse. Right up there with the pole they slide down, the fire truck, and their yellow and black uniforms. But out of all the dog breeds why Dalmatians?
The Dalmatian tradition in firehouses started more than a century ago. These days they mainly are there to be adorable mascots and companions, but before fire trucks had engines, they played a very important role.
Back then there were no engines so they firefighters would race to the blaze on a horse-drawn carriage. The Dalmatians would bark as the firefighters left the fire house to warn people to get out of the way. They would continue to run alongside horses, keeping pace with them to keep going. Sometimes they would even have to fight off other dogs or animals that could spook or attack the horses during trip to the destination.
So not only are Dalmatians super cute they are also very smart and a big help.
