TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Family Pizza Places Feeds People In Need For Free

While I am on the record as a Connecticut pizza lover (New Haven pizza capitol of the country) I will always acknowledge any feel good pizza story. After all, pizza is the one food that brings us all together. Pizza is love.

Like most small businesses and restaurants during the pandemic Calabria Restaurant and Pizzeria in Livingston New Jersey has been struggling to stay in business. But that hasn’t stopped them from helping out people in need. They have donated thousands of meals over the last year during Covid. Anyone who needs food can get it, no questions asked. The owners have told people to just send them a message on social media if the are having trouble feeding their family and a meal will be provided for free.  So far, they’ve given out around 170,000 meals in the last 12 months!

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why doesn’t glue stick to the inside of the bottle?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why doesn’t glue stick to the inside of the bottle?

We’ve all used Elmer’s glue before in school or for various art projects. If you’re like me you’ve often wondered “hey wait, why does this glue not stick to the bottle but the minute it comes out it sticks to everything?!”

The reason for it is when white glue is inside a bottle, there’s not enough air inside the bottle to cause the water to evaporate to make the glue sticky.  The bottle actually protects the glue from the air and keeps the glue runny. Then when the glue leaves the bottle it reacts with water vapor in the air to make it stick to things.

Science!

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Fire Department Helps Out Woman With Backyard Ice Rink

In an effort to get kids off the screens and out into the fresh air for a few hours, parents are getting really creative. There aren’t as many outdoor options in the winter, but one  of the more creative ideas is to build a backyard ice rink! I’ve actually seen a lot of people do this here in Connecticut.

This woman who lives in Detroit built a backyard ice rink for the kids in her neighborhood to skate and play hockey on. The local fire department even showed up with one of their water trucks to help with all the water to freeze.

Fun!

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Where is the exact middle of North America?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Where is the exact middle of North America?

We live here on the East Coast in Connecticut but I’ve always wondered if there was an exact spot that’s the direct middle of North America. Has to be right? Is there a gift shop? Maybe?

Turns out there is a town in North Dakota that’s the geographical center of the country. Ironically the name of the town is “Center”. Apparently this is a pure coincidence.

I need to visit this place someday.
