TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Advice From A 77-Year-Old Veteran Who Survived Polio And Beat Coronavirus, TWICE!

The mind can do amazing things. Some people just have a way of using positivity and powerful thinking to get through the toughest of times.

John King is a 77-year-old veteran from Michigan. He survived polio as a kid has now beaten coronavirus, TWICE!

He got it earlier this year when the pandemic began, and then a second time while being treated at a V.A. hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  He says that if you get it, it’s important to stay positive.  He also said that when they told him he might not make it, he told them to “Get the hell away from me.” That’s a survivor right there.

Here’s to many more years of health, John!

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do golf balls have dimples in them?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do golf balls have dimples in them?

The biggest golf tournament of the year is happening this week, The Masters. No, you don’t have to check your calendar The Masters normally always happens in April but because of the pandemic this year they had to push to November for the first time ever. So today’s question is golf related.

Why do golf balls have dimples in them?

The little indents in the ball are actually to help the ball go further. Way back in the early days of the game golfers realized that the balls that had nicks and bumps in them would travel further than the standard smooth round balls they used to play with. So every since then the golf ball has been designed with dimples on purpose to help distance.

Next time you’re watching or playing golf now you know why.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Bridgeport Veteran Helps Fellow Vets With Mental Health

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Bridgeport Veteran Helps Fellow Vets With Mental Health

It is Veteran’s Day so I wanted to highlight a good story that honors a veteran here in Connecticut. The one I found is about Corporal Alejandro Hernandez who was injured in a Humvee incident back in the early 2000s while serving in the marines. Sadly he was the only one who survived. His mental health started to decline. Until a wonderful organization in Bridgeport called Homes For The Brave helped him get back on track.

Not only did start to feel better, Alejandro is now an employee at Homes For The Brave helping other fellow veterans. Amazing!

Thank you to Alejandro and all the Veterans who have served our country.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why Do Juice Boxes Have Those Two Flaps On The Side?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why Do Juice Boxes Have Those Two Flaps On The Side?

You’ve seen them before whenever your kids have a juice box. Those two flaps one on each side of the top of the box. Not they’re not to make the juice fly. Even though they look like wings.

They were actually designed that way as little handles to make it easier for kids to hold the juice box without squeezing it and squirting the juice all over.
