Thursday August 19, 2021: Eat Someone’s Food; Say Something Nice; Irrational Anger

Isn’t it a shame when a major celebrity doesn’t know when it’s time to hang it up?  Anna read that one comedian is planning a comeback that absolutely nobody wants! (:30)

Anna has got three crazy news stories, and Raven’s gonna pick one to talk about!  His options include a vigilante UFC fighter, a heartbreaking stolen library story, and a skeleton with hair!  (4:19)

Is it ok to try other people’s food when you’re out to dinner?  It’s one thing to have a couple fries off a friends plate, but Anna thinks that what her husband does is going way too far!  (7:39)

If you could be buried next to any celebrity, who would it be?  Definitely a weird question, but Anna got curious after seeing that a burial plot next to her favorite celebrity was open!  (14:38)

A new study says that the trick to a happy relationship is to name 5 things you love about your partner for every one thing that annoys you.  Anna and Raven put their respective spouses to the test, and while Anna’s husband Paul eventually got 5, Raven’s wife Alicia had more trouble!  (18:10)

Everyone looks for ways to save money but if you resort to lying about your children to save a buck, that’s all I need to know about you!  (24:59)

What makes you irrationally mad?  People on Twitter are upset because of a recent font change, but that’s got nothing on how Raven feels about his refrigerator!   (27:40)

Thomas doesn’t believe in using Credit or Debit cards, and instead uses cash for literally every transaction.  His wife Joan hates it and thinks it time for him to join the 21st century!  Whose side are you on?  (34:14)

Deirdre has got a shot at $300!  Can she beat Raven in pop culture trivia and claim the prize? (41:53)

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Pre-school Teacher uses creative trick to get kids to behave

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Pre-school Teacher uses creative trick to get kids to behave

If you’ve ever taught or cared for pre-school age kids you know how hard it can be to get them to be on their best behavior.

This one pre-school teacher in Denver used a pretty cool trick. It worked so well that all the other teachers in the school would constantly comment on how quiet and spa like her classroom was.

What she would do is reward the kid’s good behavior. She brought in a disconnected old school corded phone. Anytime a student would do something good she would pick up the phone and pretend she was calling, not their parents, but a character they like. Batman, Paw Patrol, Elmo, Minnie Mouse etc… This plan worked so well that she had very little problems with the kids acting up. The best part is that its all based in positive reinforcement.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why are bananas curved?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why are bananas curved?

I’m sure you’ve wondered more than a few times while eating a banana why they are curved.

The reason for this is the way they grow. Bananas grow up towards the sun instead of down towards the ground which is what makes them have that curve shape.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Nintendo’s new idea is making kids smile in Children’s Hospitals across the country

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Nintendo’s new idea is making kids smile in Children’s Hospitals across the country

Every parent hopes they never have to spend time in a children’s hospital with their kids, but the reality is that it happens for a lot of families every single day. The more we can make the experience a little more positive for people, the better. Which is exactly what Nintendo is doing with their new idea.

Nintendo has partnered with a charity called Starlight Children’s Foundation to put custom Nintendo Switch Gaming stations in hospitals and health care facilities around the country for the kids to use. The consoles are pre-loaded with 25 games. Everything from Super Mario Party to Legend of Zelda and more. And they are made special for a hospital setting.

It’s been proven that gaming can deliver happiness to kids stuck in the hospital because it gives them a nice distraction from all the stress of their medical care. It can also help put them in a better mood and reduce anxiety. Especially if they are winning at whatever game they’re playing!

Nice work, Nintendo.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why is an ice cream cone “cone shaped”?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why is an ice cream cone “cone shaped”?

With only a few weeks left in summer you still have plenty of time to make more trips to get ice cream. Today’s mystery… how did they come up with the cone shape of the ice cream cone?

The first ice cream cone was first created back in 1896 by a man named Italo Machiony. His shop was so popular that he ran out of dishes to serve the ice cream in. To solve the problem he and the staff quickly looked around the shop for anything they could serve ice cream in and came across wafer like waffles they had. So they shaped them into cones and began using that instead of dishes.

The rest, as they say, is history. Now I really want an ice cream cone.
